Avalanche Activity

As the precipitation becomes more intense the avalanche prone locations will become more prevalent towards the evening.

Over a wide area over a wide area 25 to 40 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, will fall above approximately 1500 m. More recent wind slabs are covered with new snow and therefore difficult to recognise. As the snowfall becomes more intense the prevalence and size of the avalanche prone locations will increase. Towards the evening danger level 4 (high) will be reached above the tree line. In particular from starting zones at higher altitudes and on steep slopes large dry avalanches are possible. Backcountry touring calls for caution and restraint.

Snowpack Structure

A lot of snow is lying at intermediate and high altitudes. In some places new snow is lying on a hard crust. The new snow will become increasingly prone to triggering. As a consequence of snowfall and the southeasterly wind, fresh snow drift accumulations will form. The meteorological conditions will cause a gradual rise in the danger of dry avalanches in the afternoon.

Tendency

The avalanche danger will increase. This applies in particular in the regions exposed to heavier precipitation.
