Avalanches are unlikely. While the snowpack is currently stable, it is also a weak snowpack comprised of faceted snow and crusts. Shallow snow depths and cold temperatures continue the faceting process; depth hoar is prevalent and new surface hoar creation is widespread.
Avalanche Discussion
Light, scattered snow showers may develop overnight and are forecasted to intensify during the day on Saturday as an area of low pressure moves over the region. Four to six inches of light density snow could accumulate in the mountains by Saturday evening. Overnight lows and daytime highs will remain in the single digits as southwesterly ridgetop winds range from 15 to 25 miles per hour.The general avalanche hazard is expected to be Low Saturday morning. With the exception of very shallow soft slabs building during the day near ridgelines, avalanche activity will remain unlikely until a significant loading event occurs.
