Avalanche Summary

Wind speeds continue to increase on Wednesday morning, and snow begins midday. You might be able to trigger an avalanche in drifted snow on a steep, leeward slope by the evening, but it is more likely on Thursday.

Look for and avoid hard slabs of snow located on steep slopes below ridgetop and in cross-loaded gullies. On north through east to southeast-facing slopes, these slabs are resting on weak, collapsible layers. You can trigger avalanches in these places, and you might not get any warning signs, like cracking or audible collapses, before you do.

Look for low-angle slopes or sheltered slopes at lower elevations without a slab.
