Avalanche Summary

A Special Avalanche Advisory is in effect for the Flat Top Mountains through Monday. You can easily trigger a large avalanche in the storm snow. Safe travel in backcountry avalanche terrain requires cautious route finding. Avoid travel on or below slopes steeper than about 30 degrees.

Avalanche conditions are dangerous and you can trigger a slide large enough to bury you on any slope. Heavy snow and wind continue through Monday and human-triggered avalanches are likely. At upper elevations, southwest winds will drift snow deeply in leeward terrain features like below ridgelines and on the sides of gully features. At lower elevations, you can easily trigger an avalanche within recent storm snow that can bury you, especially if it pushes you into depression or tree well. If you notice cracking and collapsing in the new snow, move to slopes less than about 30 degrees without steep terrain overhead.
