Avalanche Activity

Adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls the avalanche prone locations are more prevalent.

At elevated altitudes sometimes avalanche prone wind slabs formed. The wind slabs can be released by a single winter sport participant in isolated cases in particular on north to east to southeast facing aspects, caution is to be exercised in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas above approximately 2500 m on very steep slopes. In very isolated cases avalanches can also be released in near-ground layers. As a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation moist and wet avalanches are possible below approximately 2800 m. This applies in particular on very steep sunny slopes.

Snowpack Structure

As a consequence of rising temperatures and partly cloudy skies the snowpack settled during the last few days. These unusual weather conditions gave rise to rapid moistening of the snowpack below approximately 2500 m. Faceted weak layers exist in the bottom section of the snowpack at intermediate and high altitudes. In all aspects less snow than usual is lying. In high Alpine regions snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind.
