Avalanche Activity

In some localities increase in avalanche danger as a consequence of the snowfall. Slab avalanches are possible.

Temporary increase in danger of dry avalanches as a consequence of the new snow. As a consequence of the snowfall the prevalence of the avalanche prone locations will increase as the day progresses. The fresh and older wind slabs are to be found in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas. Avalanches can in some places be released by small loads and reach medium size. In high Alpine regions the avalanche prone locations are more prevalent and the danger is slightly greater.

Snowpack Structure

In some regions 5 to 10 cm of snow, and up to 20 cm in some localities, has fallen thus far above approximately 1400 m. The new snow and wind slabs of last week are lying on a crust in all aspects. Individual weak layers exist in the snowpack in particular on shady slopes. In all altitude zones only a small amount of snow is lying for the time of year.
