Lo esencial

At the higher elevations some potential remains for humans to trigger dense wind slabs that were formed by west to southwest winds during the most recent storm cycle. Cornices are huge. Overhanging portions could be human triggered by the weight of a person and could trigger slab avalanches on the underlying slopes.

At the mid and upper elevations skiers and riders who venture into steep, wind loaded terrain features that avalanche frequently could trigger dense slab avalanches. These slabs could be one to four feet deep and are expected to be more sensitive to larger triggers like snowmobiles and cornice drops.

Avalanche Discussion

Temperatures are forecast to drop into the 20s overnight and rise into the upper 30 and 40’s during the day. Skies will be partly to mostly cloudy. Winds will be westerly at 20 with gusts to 30 miles per hour. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be MODERATE at the higher elevations. Some potential remains for humans to trigger dense hard slabs up to three feet deep in very steep avalanche prone terrain. Cornices are large. Overhanging portions of those cornices could release due to the weight of a person or fail naturally. Wet loose slides are a potential hazard on very steep sunlit slopes and in cliff areas during the warmest portion of the day. The hazard at the lower elevations is expected to be LOW.
