Lo esencial

Gradual increase in avalanche danger as a consequence of new snow and strong wind.

Problemas de aludes

  • New snow

    • Above treeline
  • Wind slab

    • Above 2,000 m
  • Wet snow

    • Below treeline

Snowpack Structure

As a consequence of snowfall and the strong southwesterly wind, fresh snow drift accumulations will form. The new snow and wind slabs are lying on the unfavourable surface of an old snowpack. The rain will give rise to increasing and thorough wetting of the snowpack on steep north facing slopes below the tree line.

Tendency

A lot of snow will fall in some regions.

Avalanche Activity

Gradual increase in avalanche danger as a consequence of new snow and strong wind.

In particular in the regions exposed to heavier precipitation there will be a gradual increase in the avalanche danger to level 3 (considerable). The new snow and wind slabs can be released easily, even by a single winter sport participant, in all aspects above approximately 1800 m. In particular on steep slopes natural avalanches are possible. Large and, in isolated cases, very large avalanches are possible in particular in the regions with a lot of snow.
