Lo esencial

With nearly a foot of fresh snow in the past 24 hours, you must execute conservastive terrain choices over the next couple of days.  The new snow will not bond well to the old rain crust from 1/12.  Fresh wind and storm slabs, will be your primary adversary.

12" in 24 hours is a Red Flag.  Add some wind and you have 2 Red Flags.  Sticking to slopes <30 degrees is prudent, until the new snow and old snow bond.

12" in 24 hours is a Red Flag.  Add some wind and you have 2 Red Flags.  Sticking to slopes <30 degrees is prudent, until the new snow and old snow bond.  Winds from the SSE have built fresh wind slabs on NNE-NNW aspects.  Signs of wind slab formation include, drifted and pillowed snow, dune like formations and punchy upside down, "drumlike'' snow.  If you see shooting cracks, mother nature is telling you to back off.

Avalanche Discussion

We can add up multiple Red Flags, without even leaving the house.  If you need a refresher on the Red Flags, watch this video.  Go enjoy the new snow, but make conservative terrain decisions.
