Lo esencial

MODERATEAvalanche Danger exists at all elevations for Wind Slab. Fresh snowfall today (1-3”) combined with westerly winds will load leeward NW-N-E-S-SW aspects. Evaluate snow and terrain carefully and identify features of concern.

Fresh snowfall (1-3”) today and plenty of residing fresh snow from recent storms will provide ample material for westerly winds to redistribute and form fresh, sensitive wind slab on terrain favorable to capturing wind transported snow. Moderate to strong wind velocities with gusts up to 75mph will load N-E-S leeward terrain.  Look for fresh wind deposits on areas adjacent to ridgeline, convex roll-overs, and gullies. Predicted westerly winds will tend to cross-load terrain so identify features of concern and recognize the red flags such as shooting cracks, audible collapsing of the snowpack, and visible blowing snow which will all point to current and/or rapid wind loading.

Avalanche Discussion

In addition to our potential wind slab avalanche problems today, be cognizant of loose dry sloughing potential in steep and complex terrain with our shot of new snow and loading winds.  With our overall thin and obstacle ridden conditions a small slide could drag you into nasty terrain.
