Avalanche Activity

Wind slabs require caution. The avalanche prone locations are covered with new snow and are therefore difficult to recognise.

Some snow will fall from early morning. Wind slabs can as before be released, mostly by large loads and reach medium size. This applies especially in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain in particular above the tree line, and on very steep shady slopes. Here avalanches can be released in deep layers of the snowpack and reach large size in isolated cases.

Snowpack Structure

The wind slabs of last week remain in some cases prone to triggering on very steep shady slopes above approximately 2300 m. In some places new snow and wind slabs are lying on a hard crust. Faceted weak layers exist deeper in the old snowpack here.

Tendency

Increase in avalanche danger as a consequence of the snowfall. This applies in particular towards the evening.
