Avalanche Activity

Forecast Snow Stability: Areas of unstable windslab will be present in steep wind sheltered locations mainly on South-West through West to North aspects above 850 metres. Accumulations will be mostly around coire rims, ridge flanks, gullies and sheltered hollows. Elsewhere the snowpack will become increasingly refrozen, icy and stable. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Snow showers this evening, above 400 metres, with strong Easterly winds. Remaining dry for the rest of the period with the winds steadily easing. The freezing level will be around 500 metres. Observed Weather Influences: Colder today with cloudy summits and showers through the day, snow falling above around 600 metres. Winds were fresh to strong from variable South-Easterly directions. ObservedSnowStability: Fresh snow accumulations are forming above around 600 metres landing on the existing snowpack which has started to refreeze and is generally firm and stable. Above around 800 metres these fresh accumulations are gaining some depth with areas of unstable soft windslab forming in steep wind sheltered locations, mainly on South-West through West to North aspects. This hazard continuing to increase during the afternoon. The avalanche hazard is Moderate.
