Avalanche Activity

Forecast Snow Stability: Localised moderately to weakly bonded windslab will persist in steeper wind sheltered locations on North through East to South-East aspects above 900 metres. Gully tops, steep scarp slopes and corrie rims will be particularly affected. Isolated areas of windslab will be found in steep lee locations at lower levels. Exposed slopes will be scoured and icy. New formed cornices will be unstable. The avalanche hazard will be Considerable.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: The freezing level will initially be around 600 metres but will rise to 800 metres by the end of the afternoon. Very little new snow is expected. Winds, strong overnight from the West-North-West backing and easing to the West-South-West by the end of the afternoon. Observed Weather Influences: A slowly rising freezing level, -1 at 900 metres by afternoon. Snowfall overnight but otherwise dry during the day. Very strong winds mostly West-South-West. ObservedSnowStability: Snowfall and drifting deposits have formed moderately to weakly bonded windslab in wind sheltered locations on North through East to South-East aspects above 850 metres. Steep slopes, corrie rims and gully tops are worst affected. Fragile cornices have formed. Wind exposed slopes are scoured and icy. The avalanche hazard is Considerable.
