Avalanche Activity

In high Alpine regions a dangerous avalanche situation will be encountered in some regions.

As a consequence of the northerly wind, fresh snow drift accumulations formed. These can be released by a single winter sport participant in isolated cases in particular on northwest to east to southeast facing aspects and generally in high Alpine regions. The fresh wind slabs are to be found especially adjacent to ridgelines. The current avalanche situation calls for experience in the assessment of avalanche danger.

Snowpack Structure

The moderate wind has transported the new snow. Over a wide area new snow and wind slabs are lying on a hard crust. As a consequence of the strong northwesterly wind, the snow drift accumulations have increased in size. As a consequence of highly fluctuating temperatures and solar radiation a crust formed on the surface.

Tendency

A lot of snow will fall over a wide area. The number and size of avalanche prone locations will increase in the afternoon.
