Lo esencial

At the mid and upper elevations strong southwest winds have formed soft surface slabs up to three feet deep on light density snow that fell earlier in the week. If triggered these slabs could step down to deeper buried layers of weak faceted snow and hard crusts. These dangerous slabs could be triggered by skiers and snowmobilers who venture into steep wind loaded avalanche paths. Avalanches are unlikley at the lower elevations.

Avalanche Discussion

Mostly sunny skies above areas of dense morning valley fog and cold temperatures are expected. Daytime highs will rise to near 10 degrees from overnight lows near 5 to 10 degrees below zero. Winds will be westerly at 5 to 15 miles per hour. Above 7,500 feet the general avalanche hazard is expected to be CONSIDERABLE. Surface slabs 1 to 3 feet in depth and older hard slabs up to 5 feet in depth could be triggered by backcountry users especially on very steep northerly and easterly aspects. Below 7,500 feet the general avalanche hazard is expected to be low and avalanches are unlikely.
