Avalanche Activity

Dry loose snow avalanches and dry slab avalanches are to be expected from the morning.

The fresh snow as well as the sometimes large wind slabs that are forming in all aspects will become increasingly prone to triggering above approximately 1800 m. The fresh snow as well as the sometimes large wind slabs formed during the snowfall can be released easily, or, in isolated cases naturally in particular on very steep shady slopes above approximately 2000 m. In particular on very steep shady slopes the avalanches can penetrate even deep layers and reach large size in isolated cases. Whumpfing sounds and the formation of shooting cracks when stepping on the snowpack and natural avalanches indicate the danger.

Snowpack Structure

In some regions 30 to 50 cm of snow will fall above approximately 1800 m. Down to 400 m and below snow will fall until midday over a wide area. The soft wind slabs are bonding only slowly with the old snowpack.
