LO for 12/2. Localised unstable windslab developing mainly on NW-NE aspects above 1000m. Cornices! Old snowpack stable. Low hazard.

Forecast Snow Stability: Localised areas of fresh unstable windslab will accumulate through the period mainly on North-West to North-East aspects above 1000 metres with wind sheltered locations such as gullies, corrie rims and ridge flanks most affected. Fragile cornices will build above these aspects. The older snowpack will remain generally well bonded and stable. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Strong South-East winds soon ease to become moderate and veer to Southerly during the day. Showers throughout the period, initially falling as snow only on the highest summits but then to gradually lower levels with snow above 900 metres in the afternoon. The freezing level will drop from above the summits to around 1000 metres through the period. Observed Weather Influences: It was a dry day with strong Southerly winds. The freezing level was above the summits. ObservedSnowStability: The snowpack is generally well bonded and stable. It has a firm surface in most locations with some softening and slow thawing at lower elevations. The avalanche hazard is Low
