Lo esencial

Snow showers will diminish and skies will clear today. Two to four inches of fresh snow has paired with a strong northerly wind. Expect wind blowing snow and drifting in leeward terrain. The avalanche danger is moderate. Remain attentive to wind loading. North wind is expected to blow through the weekend. Wind chill temperatures will be significant.

    Strong northerly wind may simply blow the fresh snow away...off the mountain or into low angle gullies. Mount Shasta will likely be scoured to the old snow by the end of the weekend.That said, watch for unstable areas of wind drifted snow near and below ridgelines and bowls in avalanche terrain. Use clues such as new cornice formations, newly formed drifts, snow surface texture and snow surface cracking. Move around these areas with caution, or avoid all together.
