Lo esencial

The most likely locations to trigger an avalanche are steep unsupported terrain and convex rolls near and above treeline. Remember that LOW danger doesn't mean NO danger. Watch for signs of instability when venturing into extreme terrain below treeline.

A weak layer in the recent new snow caused a few slab avalanches last Saturday and Sunday. This layer has slowly been gaining strength as time passes.  However, a low likelihood/high consequence avalanche is still possible in the right terrain. Steep cliffs and convex rollovers above unsupported terrain, particularly on northwest, north, and northeast aspects, may still produce an avalanche. Watch for cracking and whumpfing sounds as clues of a possible lingering storm slab.

Avalanche Discussion

The Everett Memorial Highway is OPEN as of late afternoon yesterday (12/12). Please drive carefully as the newly plowed road can be slippery and icy. At 2:30pm yesterday, the gate to Castle Lake was open but the road had not been plowed.
