Avalanche Activity

New snow and wet snow represent the main danger.

Above approximately 2200 m snow will fall over a wide area. The wind will be moderate. In particular on wind-loaded slopes dry avalanches can be triggered in the new snow and wind slab layers and reach large size in some cases. In the regions exposed to heavier precipitation this applies in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls as well as. Over a wide area rain to intermediate altitudes: Medium-sized to large moist and wet avalanches are to be expected. Ski touring and other off-piste activities, including snowshoe hiking, call for experience in the assessment of avalanche danger.

Snowpack Structure

Over a wide area over a wide area 30 to 40 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, has fallen since Friday above approximately 2200 m. The southerly wind will transport the new snow. In some cases the wind slabs have bonded poorly with each other and the old snowpack. This applies especially in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain. In particular at intermediate and high altitudes a lot of snow is lying. The rain gave rise to moistening of the snowpack in particular at low and intermediate altitudes.
