Avalanche Activity

New snow and wind slabs are to be critically assessed.

The new snow of yesterday is bonding only slowly with the old snowpack on very steep shady slopes above approximately 2400 m. The fresh snow as well as the mostly small wind slabs can be released by a single winter sport participant in high Alpine regions. Avalanches can in isolated cases be triggered in the old snowpack and reach medium size. The avalanche prone locations are covered with new snow and are difficult to recognise.

Snowpack Structure

In some localities up to 20 cm of snow has fallen since yesterday above approximately 2000 m. In some places new snow and wind slabs are lying on the smooth surface of an old snowpack. In particular at low altitude a little snow is lying.
