Avalanche Activity

Fresh wind slabs require caution.

The fresh and older wind slabs can be released by a single winter sport participant in some cases in particular on west to north to east facing aspects above approximately 2200 m. In high Alpine regions the avalanche prone locations are present in all aspects and the danger is slightly greater. The avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls. Avalanches can reach medium size in isolated cases, in the regions exposed to heavier precipitation in particular at elevated altitudes and. More frequent mostly small loose snow avalanches are to be expected, especially in the regions exposed to heavier precipitation. Only isolated gliding avalanches are possible. This applies on steep grassy slopes below approximately 2600 m. Areas with glide cracks are to be avoided.

Snowpack Structure

In particular in the south up to 15 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, has fallen. Up to 20 cm of snow, and up to 25 cm in some localities, will fall. In the north 10 to 15 cm of snow will fall. The wind will be moderate. The more recent wind slabs will be deposited on soft layers at elevated altitudes.
