Avalanche Summary

A Special Avalanche Advisory is in effect for areas around the Flat Tops, Park Range, and Rabbit Ears Range. Though slowly decreasing, the avalanche danger remains elevated after a potent storm created very dangerous avalanche conditions. You can easily trigger avalanches large enough to bury you and some may grow very large in size.

You can easily trigger an avalanche on slopes with more than ten inches of recently fallen storm snow, especially where it rests on crust layers. The most dangerous areas are directly below ridgelines, cornices, steep rollovers, and inside of gully features. Slides will be larger at upper elevations where the wind drifted snow onto easterly-facing slopes. If you see recent avalanches, shooting cracks in the new snow, or hear collapses, then it is time to move to wind-sheltered slopes less than about 30 degrees.
