Lo esencial

At the mid and upper elevations recent snow and wind have deposited dense slabs in steep wind loaded starting zones. These slabs can be up to three feet in depth at upper elevations. Pockets of these slabs could be triggered today by backcountry users on steep avalanche terrain and not necessarily by the first person on the slope. As snowfall continues today these slabs are expected to grow in size and become more sensitive. Avalanches are unlikely at the lower elevations today except in isolated pockets on steep terrain particularly near the valley floor where freezing has not occurred. The fourth avalanche fatality in Wyoming occurred Saturday in the Togwotee Pass area when two snowmobilers were caught in a slide.
