Avalanche Activity

As the snowfall becomes more intense the avalanche prone locations will become more prevalent from the early morning.

In particular on very steep shady slopes and above approximately 2200 m small and, in isolated cases, medium-sized dry slab avalanches are possible as a consequence of new snow and wind. The fresh snow and in particular the wind slabs can be released easily, or, in isolated cases naturally. In the regions exposed to heavier precipitation this applies in particular on very steep northeast, north and northwest facing slopes. Even a small avalanche can sweep snow sport participants along and give rise to falls.

Snowpack Structure

15 cm of snow, and up to 25 cm in some localities, fell in the last few days above approximately 1400 m. The fresh snow and the scattered mostly small wind slabs are lying on a crust. The meteorological conditions will prevent a rapid strengthening of the near-surface layers.
