Avalanche Activity

Some snow has fallen since Tuesday. Weak layers in the old snowpack are treacherous.

Above approximately 1800 m snow has fallen since Tuesday. The fresh snow as well as the scattered wind slabs can be released in some cases at intermediate and high altitudes. This applies in particular on steep slopes, and in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain. Weak layers in the old snowpack can be released especially by large additional loads. Avalanches can also be released in the old snowpack and reach medium size in particular on steep shady slopes. Weak layers in the old snowpack are treacherous.

Snowpack Structure

10 to 15 cm of snow has fallen since Tuesday above approximately 2000 m. Towards its surface, the snowpack is moist, in particular below approximately 2100 m. The new snow of the last few days is poorly bonded with the old snowpack, in particular on steep slopes, and in gullies and bowls in particular at intermediate and high altitudes. Towards its base, the snowpack is faceted. This applies in particular on steep east, north and west facing slopes,.

Tendency

Some snow will fall in particular in the regions exposed to the foehn wind. The wind will be moderate to strong. Slight increase in avalanche danger.
