Avalanche Activity

NC for 17.02 Small amounts of localised windslab found on NE-E-SE aspects above 700m. Old snow stable and well bonded. Hazard Low.

Forecast Snow Stability: Small amounts of fresh windslab will start to develop on North-East through East to South-East aspects mostly above 700 metres. These new accumulations will be isolated, shallow and easily avoidable, mainly found around coire rims and gully tops. The old snowpack will be stable and well bonded throughout. Greatest amounts will be found on North through East to South-East aspects above 950 metres. The avalanche hazard will be Low.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Moderate South-Westerly winds will veer becoming West-North-West storm force for a few hours around dawn before easing to gale force. Heavy overnight rain will become lighter during the day turning to snow above 700 metres. The freezing level will lower from 2000 metres to 700 metres during the day. Observed Weather Influences: A dry day with light West-South-Westerly winds. The freezing level was around 1100 metres at midday. ObservedSnowStability: Small amounts of fresh snow are present on North to East aspects above 1000 metres. These are shallow and easily avoidable. The existing old snowpack remains well bonded and stable throughout and can be found on North through East to South-East aspects above 950 metres. The avalanche hazard is Low.
