Lo esencial

A brief break from winter storms sees our snowpack retreat to much safer conditions...for the moment. Rain up to 6,500 feet on Sunday and Monday caused wet loose slides to release in much of our forecast zone, releasing energy from the snowpack. Continue to exercise caution when traveling in areas of potential wind-loading on all aspects above treeline. Watch for shooting cracks, whumphing, and other telltale signs that the area you're on still holds the potential for a slide.

Don't be alarmed by the strange, glowing object in the sky. It's just the sun, back to check on us for a few days. Expect wet loose releases on all southern aspects as the sun climbs through the sky and shines on all the new snow. Generally slower-moving, these slides still have the potential to entrain large areas of snow and sweep riders off their feet. Watch for roller balls, pin-wheels, and other signs of solar-affect as you travel through the backcountry.

Riders should remain cautious and not rule out the chance of wind slabs on northerly and easterly aspects that received days of wind-loading the previous week. Areas that didn't see rain are going to be your main culprits.
