Avalanche Activity

Forecast Snow Stability: Fresh moderately bonded windslab will develop during the day on West through North-West to North-East aspects above 1000 metres. This will mostly accumulate in steep wind sheltered locations such as coire rims and gully tops. The existing snowpack will be subject to slow consolidation, but continues to present lingering weakness at depth. Slopes above 650 metres will present the greatest snow cover, with isolated patches below. Fresh cornices will develop. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Precipitation is expected throughout the period, this falling initially as snow above 1000 metres, later above 900 metres. Winds will be South-Easterly strong overnight increasing to very strong during the day. The freezing level will drop to around 950 metres by dawn. Observed Weather Influences: Occasional snow showers above 1000 metres in the morning, followed by a mostly dry afternoon. Winds were fresh and South-South-Easterly. The freezing level was around 1100 metres at midday. ObservedSnowStability: Fresh moderately bonded windslab developed during the day on West through North-West to North-East aspects above 1000 metres. This was mostly confined to the coire rims, gully tops and other steep wind sheltered locations. Elsewhere the snowpack has been subject to slow consolidation. Below 650 metres gradual snow loss has resulted in limited cover characterised by snow patches in hollows and burn lines. The avalanche hazard is Moderate.
