Avalanche Activity

Spontaneous loose snow slides are possible.

A few centimetres of new fallen snow will be added. As the snow is mostly wet, small loose snow slides may occur occasionally on grass mats or in sparse beech forests.

Snowpack Structure

10 to 20 cm of new fallen snow has fallen above 800 metres on mostly bare ground. There will be another 10 to 20 cm of new fallen snow.

Weather Forecast

It will continue to snow lightly to moderately in the Lower Austrian mountains during the coming night, with the snowfall intensifying from the east in the morning hours. Tomorrow, Friday, the mountains will be covered in clouds all day and heavy snowfall is expected in places. The snowfall will only gradually subside during the night to Saturday. The temperature at an altitude of 2000 metres will be around -11 degrees. The temperature at an altitude of 1500 metres will be around -7 degrees. Strong to gale-force winds from the north-east to north with gusts of between 60 and 80 kilometres per hour. The snowfall level is in the valleys and rises towards 800 metres during the day.

Tendency

The avalanche risk is not expected to increase. With the rise in temperatures, spontaneous wet snow slides on Saturday cannot be ruled out.
