Avalanche Activity

Forecast Snow Stability: Significant areas of soft unstable windslab will remain on mainly North through East to South-East aspects above 900 metres. Some pockets of soft windslab may be found on other aspects. Cornices will be fragile and prone to collapse. At lower levels there will remain a uniform layer of soft snow and stability will be better. The avalanche hazard will be Considerable.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Generally dry during the morning with some light snow during the afternoon. There will be a strong breeze from the West backing to the South-West during the day. The freezing level will be around 600 metres. Observed Weather Influences: Heavy snow showers overnight and through the morning became lighter during the afternoon. Moderate winds were from the West. The freezing level was around 500 metres. ObservedSnowStability: Significant deposits of soft unstable windslab has been deposited on mainly North through East to South-East aspects above 900 metres. Fresh cornices above these aspects are unstable and prone to collapse. Below 900 metres there has been less drifting and the fresh snow is generally sitting on bare ground and so stability is better. The avalanche hazard is Considerable.
