Avalanche Activity

Wind slabs require caution.

The strong wind will transport the new snow. Fresh and somewhat older wind slabs can be released by a single winter sport participant in some cases. They are barely recognisable because of the poor visibility. The avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain and at transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack. In very isolated cases avalanches can also be triggered in the old snowpack and reach large size.

Snowpack Structure

In some localities 10 to 20 cm of snow fell yesterday above approximately 1000 m. Little snow will fall in the late morning in some localities. Weak layers exist in the old snowpack in particular on steep west, north and east facing slopes.
