Avalanche Activity

Forecast Snow Stability: Initially little change overnight with existing instabilities present in steep locations on mainly North-East to South-East aspects above 800 metres. For the remainder of the period this existing windslab will begin to consolidate then redistribution of snow forming new unstable windslab mainly on SW to NW aspects above 800m. These are not expected to be as extensive but will be poorly bonded. Cornices will begin to form above these new aspects. The avalanche hazard will be Considerable

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: It will be dry throughout the period with the freezing level around 200 metres, rising slightly during the afternoon. Moderate East-South-Easterly winds strengthen through Tuesday night becoming fresh to strong through the day. Observed Weather Influences: A bright, clear and sunny day with light North-Easterly winds. The freezing level lifted slightly during the morning to around 300 metres. ObservedSnowStability: There was a light covering of new snow overnight including to lower elevations mostly in wind sheltered locations. Above 800 metres unstable windslab is present mainly in steep locations on North-East to South-East aspects. Other aspects and elevations are affected, these areas are less extensive. Fragile cornices are present above these locations with debris observed in the coire from yesterday. The avalanche hazard is Considerable.
