Avalanche Activity

In some cases the wind slabs have bonded still only poorly with the old snowpack.

Since Sunday the wind has been strong in some localities in some regions. Particularly in the valley heads. The soft wind slabs can be released by a single winter sport participant in particular on northeast to southeast to southwest facing aspects above the tree line. These avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular on very steep slopes and in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain. On steep slopes and at the base of rock walls and behind abrupt changes in the terrain more natural dry avalanches are possible, but they will be mostly small.

Snowpack Structure

20 to 30 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, has fallen since Friday above approximately 2000 m. In many places new snow is being deposited on bare ground (--), in particular on sunny slopes and at low and intermediate altitudes. The new snow and wind slabs are lying on the unfavourable surface of an old snowpack on rather lightly snow-covered shady slopes. Is lying on a crust on steep south, west and southeast facing slopes.

Tendency

Afternoon: As a consequence of warming and solar radiation, the activity of small and medium moist and wet avalanches will increase, in particular on very steep sunny slopes.
