Fresh wind slabs may form on the uppermost ridgetops and peaks with some new snow and southerly winds overnight. These may be patchy, and only thick enough to be cohesive slabs in very isolated locations. Check to see how this new snow is bonding to the old surface by using small, inconsequential test slopes. Look for clues to instability such as cracking, and recent small slab avalanches. You are most likely to find these on steep, wind exposed features near ridgelines. If you see evidence the wind has affected the snow, be leery of nearby slopes greater than 35 degrees.
