Heavy new snow at upper and mid elevations is resting on slippery light density snow over sun, rime and wind crusts. This combination combined with warm temperatures created several slides on sunlit slopes yesterday afternoon. Similar slides are possible today on sunlit slopes which may be triggered naturally or by people. Strong winds have helped develop pockets of slabs to 12 inches on northerly aspects.A skier was caught but not injured in a one foot deep slab in a North facing couloir in Granite Canyon yesterday. At low elevations with warm overnight temperatures wet loose slides are possible in steep areas such as ravines and roadcuts as the day warms.
