Lo esencial

New snow and southwest winds created soft slabs to 14 inches in depth on steep, lee slopes at mid and upper elevations. The new snow rests on slick sun crusts on all but the more northerly aspects and the will easily slide with human triggers. Sunshine will increase the sensitivity of the snow and natural sloughs or wet-loose slides will be possible on sunlit slopes. The possibility remains for users to trigger deeper slides to three feet in depth on steep, northerly aspects at upper elevations. At lower elevations avalanches are unlikely but be alert to the possibility of steep slopes sloughing should they receive extended, direct sunlight

Avalanche Discussion

Sunny skies and warmer temperatures are expected as high pressure and nighttime temperature inversions build over the area for the weekend. Mountain temperatures are to rise from the low teens into the low thirties. Morning fog is expected. The general avalanche hazard will be Moderate. In the morning it may be possible for skiers and riders to trigger slabs to three foot depths in very steep north facing terrain in the Togwotee and Southwest areas. Increasing temperatures and direct sunlight will increase the sensitivity of these slabs and provide the possibility to trigger similar slabs in the Tetons and on other aspects.
