Lo esencial

Winds were light during last night’s snowfall event. Skiers and riders venturing into very steep terrain above 8,500 feet might be able to trigger shallow loose snow sluffs involving the new snow, and afternoon sunshine could make these slides more likely. If areas of wind drifted snow are encountered, approach them cautiously especially if any slab development has occurred. Below 8,500 feet, snow depths are insufficient for avalanche activity.

Avalanche Discussion

Expect mostly clear skies overnight as a ridge of high pressure begins to move into the region from the west. Some thin, high clouds will be possible on Sunday. Overnight lows in the mountains will drop into the single digits before rebounding into the mid-20s during the day. Westerly to northwesterly ridgetop winds will remain light at 5 to 15 miles per hour. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be Low on Saturday above 8,500 feet. Up there, backcountry travelers might be able to trigger an isolated pocket of shallow soft slab or loose snow sluff in very steep, avalanche prone terrain. Below 8,500 feet, snow depths are insufficient for avalanche activity.
