Avalanche Activity

Fresh wind slabs require caution. In addition the danger of dry and wet avalanches will increase as the day progresses.

The fresh snow and in particular the sometimes deep wind slabs can be released by a single winter sport participant and generally at intermediate and high altitudes. These are to be found especially in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain. In particular in the regions with a lot of snow more medium-sized and large dry and wet avalanches are possible as a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation. The wind slabs of the weekend will become increasingly prone to triggering in particular on steep sunny slopes.

Snowpack Structure

In some places new snow and wind slabs are lying on the smooth surface of an old snowpack. This applies in particular at intermediate and high altitudes and along the border with Switzerland. Adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls the wind slabs will increase in size from late morning. The snowpack will become in some cases unstable. Sunny slopes: As a consequence of rising temperatures and solar radiation a crust will form on the surface during the next few days.

Tendency

These conditions will facilitate a gradual strengthening of the snowpack.
