The avalanche danger is Moderate above 8,500 feet. Persistent weak layers near the base of the snowpack hold the potential to produce avalanches in steep upper elevation terrain. Small isolated pockets of more recently formed shallow wind slabs will also be possible to trigger on very steep wind loaded slopes in the highest elevations. Below 8,500 feet avalanches are unlikely.

    Weak layers buried 2-4 feet deep sit below dense slabs. The likelihood of triggering slabs at these depths is on the low end of the scale. Despite this, it remains important to approach steep upper elevation slopes with caution, as the consequences of being caught and carried is high. To manage this avalanche problem, follow safe travel protocols by only exposing one person at a time and avoid stopping in runout zones.

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )Skies will remain mostly clear overnight tonight. Valley inversions will re develop with low elevations dipping into the single digits. Winds will be out of the northwest and west at 20-25 mph. Valley inversions will break down and clouds will be on the increase later in the day. A few flurries are possible by day’s end with no measurable accumulation.In the Southwest Trails/Grey’s River and Teton areas the avalanche danger will remain Low. Isolated pockets of shallow wind slab, less than one foot in depth, will be possible to trigger in very steep upper elevation terrain. Elsewhere avalanches are unlikely. In the Togwotee Pass area the danger will remain Moderate above 8,500 feet, primarily for the possibility of triggering slab avalanches in the 2-4 foot range in very steep terrain.
