Togwotee Pass
Peligro de aludes
Lo esencial
The general avalanche hazard is MODERATE above 8000' where the chance continues for backcountry riders and skiers to trigger slab avalanches in very steep terrain. These slabs could be soft with depths to two feet or in large exposed terrain features such as Lava Mountain the slabs could be hard with depths to four feet. These slabs could become more sensitive as temperatures warm to above twenty degrees today. Caution is advised as involvement in such a slide would likely carry severe consequences. The general avalanche hazard below 8000 feet is Low where avalanches are unlikely.
Avalanche Discussion
( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )Wednesday looks to be mostly sunny with highs in the teens and light winds before a weak system brings the chance for some snow flurries or light snow Wednesday evening and night. The general avalanche hazard is Moderate. The chance persists for backcountry travelers to trigger pockets of slab to five feet in depth in steep rocky terrain. A larger trigger such as a snowmobile or a group of skiers may be needed to initiate failure although a slab could possibly fail even to one person if a shallow trigger point is impacted in very steep terrain.
