Lo esencial

Heavy snowfall ending Monday morning dropped two to three feet of light density snow at upper elevations. The snow and westerly winds have created easily triggered soft slabs to three feet in depth on steep, lee slopes and chutes above 8,500 feet. Increasing winds today will move available snow into starting zones and raise the chances for users to trigger avalanches. Cautious route-finding and conservative decision-making will be essential for safe travel. Avalanches are unlikely at the lower elevations.

Avalanche Discussion

In the Tetons the avalanche hazard will be High. Strong winds moving up to two feet of light, available snow and several inches of new snow will develop easily triggered or naturally running firm to hard slabs to four feet in depth on lee slopes above 8,500 feet. The slabs rest on slick crusts and wind pack.In the Greys River and Togwotee Pass areas the avalanche hazard will be Considerable. Strong winds with new and available snow will increase easily triggered slabs from 18 to 24 inches in depth on steep, lee slopes.
