Lo esencial

At the upper elevations in the morning soft slabs to 18" lie in wind loaded avalanche terrain. These slabs lie upon a well distributed weak layer of faceted snow and could be easily triggered by backcountry enthusiasts. The size and sensitivity of these slabs will increase as the snowfall continues during the day. At the mid elevations similar but smaller pockets could be released. Low elevation slopes lack sufficient snow depths for avalanches.

Avalanche Discussion

The current weather system will bring several more inches of snow to the mountains Thursday night. On Friday another storm system moving in from the south will bring another round of light snow to the area. Mountain temperatures will be in the single digits in the morning and rise into the teens in the afternoon. Winds will back to the south and decrease to 10 to 15 miles per hour. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be CONSIDERABLE at the higher elevations (above 9,000 feet), MODERATE at the mid elevations (9,000 to 7,500 feet and LOW below an elevation of 7,500 feet. Soft slabs up to two feet in depth could be easily triggered by humans or release naturally in steep upper elevation avalanche starting zones.
