Avalanche Activity

Forecast Snow Stability: Overnight there will be a period of instability as rain affects all levels. North-West through North to East aspects above 1000 metres will be most affected. Cornices will be prone to collapse. During the day the snowpack will refreeze and become stable. Fresh unstable windslab will form in wind sheltered areas, mainly on North-East to South-East aspects above 900 metres. Accumulations gaining depth are not expected to be extensive. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Moderate Southerly winds will strengthen to very strong and veer Westerly overnight, before gradually easing through the day. During the evening the freezing level will rise well above all summits and there will be a period of heavy rain at all levels. Before dawn the freezing level will drop and will be around 750 metres during the day. Light snow showers are expected during the day. Observed Weather Influences: It was a damp day with moderate mainly South-South-Westerly winds. The freezing level was around 1150 metres. ObservedSnowStability: Fresh and recently deposited windslab is present in wind sheltered areas, mainly on North-West through North to East aspects above 1050 metres. Accumulations gaining depth are not extensive. The old snowpack is generally stable. The avalanche hazard is Low.
