Avalanche Activity

LO for 19/2. Good Stability overnight. Isolated wet snow instabilities daytime mainly on steep N-E aspects above 1000m. Low hazard.

Forecast Snow Stability: The snowpack will remain generally stable overnight. During the day isolated wet snow instabilities will develop mainly on steep North to East aspects above 1000 metres. The avalanche hazard will be Low.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: It will be a dry night with moderate winds and a freezing level around 800 metres. During the day South-West winds will gradually increase to gale force, precipitation will fall as snow on the highest summits in the morning, before turning to rain at all levels as the temperature rises above the summits in the afternoon. Observed Weather Influences: After overnight snow it was a dry day with light, variable winds. The freezing level was around 800 metres. ObservedSnowStability: After a period of instability overnight when several avalanches occurred on North-East and East aspects, a refreeze has created a breakable surface crust. This bridges the persisting weaknesses in the recent snow which mainly lies on North to East aspects above 800 metres. The older snowpack is firm and stable. The avalanche hazard is Low.
