SC for 21.12: Isolated windslab on steep NW to NE aspects above 900m, Elsewhere firm patchy and stable. Low Hazard.

Forecast Snow Stability: The majority of the patchy snow cover will be well bonded and stable. Isolated accumulations of moderately bonded windslab will develop in a few steeper, wind sheltered locations on North-West to North-East aspects above 900 metres. Superficial cover at lower elevations will start to thaw. The avalanche hazard will be Low.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: The freezing level is expected to be around 700 metres overnight but rising to around the highest summits by late afternoon. Precipitation will initially fall as snow but will mostly turn to rain as the day progresses. Very strong winds throughout, South-South-West veering to become South-West in the afternoon. Observed Weather Influences: The freezing level dropped to around 900 metres with a dusting of new snow above 600 metres. Winds were strong from the South-South-East. ObservedSnowStability: The remaining patchy snow is generally well bonded and stable throughout. New snowfall was very light and and made little difference to overall conditions. The avalanche hazard is Low.
