Avalanche Activity

Forecast Snow Stability: Instabilities will persist in existing areas of windslab, affecting steep North-West through North-East to South-East aspects above 800 metres. Accumulations of fresh unstable windslab will develop on steep wind sheltered terrain, North to East aspects above 750 metres. Most affected will be gully exits, ridge flanks and scarp slopes. Cornices will remain fragile. Elsewhere, snow cover will be stable. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Light scattered snow showers will continue throughout the forecast period. Winds will be fresh to strong, generally South-Westerly. The freezing level will hover around 400 metres. Observed Weather Influences: After a dry and cloudy start, light snow developed into the afternoon. Winds light South-Easterly initially, strengthening later. Freezing at all levels. ObservedSnowStability: There is a covering of deep stable snow at most levels and aspects. However, areas of moderately well bonded windslab exists, generally at higher elevations, on steep slopes, North-West, through North-East to South-East aspects above 800 metres. Most affected are steep gully exits, ridge flanks, scarp slopes and crag aprons. Cornices are fragile. The avalanche hazard is Moderate.
