Avalanche Activity

New snow and wind slabs require caution.

50 to 80 cm of snow fell in the last four days above approximately 2000 m. The new snow of the last few days is poorly bonded with the old snowpack. In particular extremely steep west, north and east facing slopes, above approximately 1800 m: Medium-sized and, in isolated cases, large natural avalanches are possible. As a consequence of new snow and a light to moderate wind from variable directions, soft wind slabs formed in the last three days above the tree line. They can be released by small loads. Over a wide area new snow and wind slabs are lying on the smooth surface of an old snowpack. Caution is to be exercised in particular above the tree line on steep northwest, north and northeast facing slopes. In addition gliding avalanches are possible, especially on very steep grassy slopes.

Snowpack Structure

Over a wide area new snow is lying on a moist old snowpack. In some places new snow is lying on the smooth surface of an old snowpack. The new snow of the last three days must be evaluated with care and prudence. The weather conditions on Monday will give rise to increasing moistening of the snowpack in some cases.

Tendency

On Tuesday it will be mild. The avalanche danger will persist. Considerable, level 3.
