Quite favorable conditions - daytime rise in danger of wet-snow avalanches

Overall quite favorable conditions prevail, avalanche danger is low. Isolated avalanche prone locations occur on shady, steep ridgeline slopes and behind protruberances, and in transitions from shallow to deep snow above 2400 m, particularly in laterally-skied steep terrain, mostly by large additional loading they can trigger locally. Due to daytime warmth and solar radiation, glide-snow avalanches are possible, especially below 2200 m on steep sunny slopes.

Outgoing longwave radiation was good last night, due to cloudless skies. Foehn SE/SW winds could be felt. On sunny slopes a melt-freeze crust formed, on shady NE/N/NW slopes there is still loose snow. Above 2200m on north-facing slopes the snowpack is expansively metamorphosed (faceted). Near ridges on very steep slopes and in transitions from shallow to deep snow above 2400 m there are isolated weak layers embedded inside the snowpack which are prone to triggering. Below 2000 m the snowpack is partially moist, which enhances the gliding movement of the entire snowpack over very steep grass-covered slopes.

Only a few cirrus clouds, otherwise full sunshine. Temperatures like yesterday, but with foehn influence. At 2000m: from -4 to +2 degrees. Moderate southerly winds.

The weather forecast foresees sunny weather for the next few days, and slowly rising temperatures. Foehn influence starting on Friday will be noticeable, springtime can already be felt. Low avalanche danger in the mornings, slightly increasing danger of wet-snow avalanches during the course of the day.
