Avalanche Activity

In the afternoon as a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation there will be only a slight increase in the danger of dry and moist avalanches. Old wind slabs at high altitudes and in high Alpine regions.

As the day progresses the likelihood of moist snow slides and avalanches being released will increase gradually in particular on rocky slopes below approximately 2700 m. The old wind slabs can be released, especially by large additional loads, in particular on north, east and southeast facing slopes and generally at high altitude. They are rather small and can only be released in isolated cases, caution is to be exercised adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls.

Snowpack Structure

Sunshine and high temperatures will give rise in the afternoon to increasing moistening of the snowpack in particular on sunny slopes. Adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas as well as in high Alpine regions snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind. In some cases the wind slabs have bonded poorly with the old snowpack.
